Drawer slides are mechanisms that allow drawers in cabinets, desks and sideboards to slide in and out. Before now, drawers usually slide raw, requiring a lot of elbow grease to make them give way. This due to the construction of slides made of molded or carved wood. Today, wood has been replaced by either aluminum or stainless steel slide mechanisms that allow smoother movement when opening or closing a drawer. There are four types of drawer slides, based on how they are mounted in the drawer and inside the drawer slot.
This is a common type of slide found in many kitchen cabinets and office desks. Even the drawers of sturdy storage cabinets are mounted with this type of cabinet drawer slide. The design is simple, durable stable, and very easy to install. The set is mounted on each side of a drawer. The aluminum or stainless steel bar extension is mounted on both sides of the cabinet interior, consistent with the set mounted on the sides of the drawer. Assembly line on the drawer with the bar inside the cabinet, and the drawer slides effortlessly.
These are sliding sets of drawers designed for light storage. Therefore, they are normally installed in office desk drawers and tables. The set is mounted in the center area of the bottom of the drawer, stabilized by a support inside the table behind the drawer. The bracket has a metal bar with a joint extension and is inserted into the accessory slide mounted at the bottom of the drawer.
This type of slide is perfect for drawers that will be used to store heavy items. The Assembly arranges under the drawer on each side, providing a high degree of stability and support. The metal bars are mounted on the inside of the drawer or cabinet, particularly on the front and inside edges to the rear. The sliding assemblies are mounted on the bottom of the drawer on each side.
This type of slide is often referred to as the European one. Technically, it is a variation of the side mount type design but with a couple of turns. To begin with, the drawer side brackets are located at the bottom of each side and not centered as in the side mount type. Second, the metal bar does not have an extension, which allows only a small opening as the heavy duty drawer slides out. Therefore, access to the inside of the drawer is quite limited. However, this design has its advantages. Since the sliding side assemblies are mounted on the bottom of each side, drawer weight capacity increases exponentially due to greater stability and support.
